Krav Maga Bristol Instructor
My name is Paul and I am the lead Instructor at Krav Maga Bristol. I have been training since 1971, I began with Judo and schoolboy boxing as a child. I later moved on to Wado ryu karate for 4 years and became a First Dan at 16 years of age and I was at that time one of the youngest Black Belts in the country. This was before it became accepted practice and 18 was the normal minimum age to sit a Dan grade panel. Over the next 15 years I gained a further 3 Blackbelts in different Martial Arts but despite frequent training and searching, I had little faith in any of them. I had assumed that somehow I was at fault, it was years later it became common knowledge that martial arts training generally is a poor method of self-defence training.
Apart from an enforced break due to a serious road traffic accident, I have trained throughout my life. I was never gifted or academic at school but could always perform well on the matt. The Martial Arts have been a life long adventure for me and are ideal for those possessed of an insatiable curiosity and desire to challenge themselves throughout life. The reality is that I was a good but not outstanding student of the martial arts. I found that diligence and smart training strategies helped me outperform better natural athletes over time. I trained hard and consistently over years then decades. Most others wouldn’t so I got better than most of my peers.
Krav Maga Bristol Coaching
As I grew and developed in my own right as an instructor, I became increasingly interested in student performance and how to most effectivley help those who were not natural athletes. Krav Maga seemed a great fit due to its emphasise on simplicity and instinctive combatives. the attitudes toward coaching has effected the training ethos at Krav Maga Bristol.
Krav Maga Bristol Training Ethos
In simple terms, we are here to help others help themselves.
Krav Maga Bristol provides professional coaching to all abilities, to do this well we need beginners to be clear and committed about their goals and to give us at least 16 weeks to achieve something meaningful. From experience, we can do something outstanding with 92% of students who give us those 16 weeks. It’s tough, its hard work because we hold students to a high standard, but the proof is in the pudding so to speak and our track record speaks for it’s self.
Your first lesson at Krav Maga Bristol
We invite people to attend a trial lesson and take the Krav Maga experience. This Trial Krav Maga Lesson is critical as it sets the tone for future training. We go to some effort to make the classes challenging and enjoyable, but at a deeper level we are also beginning to train students to survive violence should it occur. It’s a balancing act combining realistic self defence training with a fun approachable method.
We’ve been teaching professionally for over 13 years and trained more students through to professional instructor level than any other school in the UK so we have a significant track record.
